Special Night here at NT’s
Comrade Sam : 8pm - 10pm
Part of Brighton’s Mod soul and ska scene for many years where he managed Brighton legends Ska Gal and the Hands of Ra and the Brighton Aggitators Soul & Ska Revu. Sam plays an untouchable mix of the best northern soul and ska you are likely to hear just about anywhere. From white labels to classic tracks from soul legends, Sam’s sets are always too hot to hold and irresistible to dance to.
Rob Smoughton (Hot Chip / Black Peaches): 10pm - 11.30pm
Rob Smoughton is probably best known as a long-time member of Hot Chip and Scritti Politti, while his alter-ago Grovesnor has released a number of silky smooth electro-soul albums to critical acclaim. As a live musician he’s played at The Hollywood Bowl, The Sydney Opera House and countless festivals all over the world. In 2015 he unveiled his new project Black Peaches with their debut single “A Fire & A Water Sign” released through 1965 Records. Black Peaches occupy a midway point between the swamp and the delta, a gloriously loose-limbed and strung-out stew of tropical country and boogie. The band have recorded their debut album in studios from London to Idaho via New York and Paris, and “Get Down You Dirty Rascals” is released in early March 2016. A seasoned record collector, Rob has been in demand as a DJ for the last decade and more. Just last year he’s been invited to share that record collection at The Ace Hotel (New York), Spiritland, The Roundhouse and The Green Man Festival. A regular of the London audiophile scene, expect his choices to take in a combination of tropical disco, southern soul and funk, minimal grooves and broad technicolour soundscapes.
